Project Analyst: Early Warning Systems (EWS) Action area: Cryosphere and water Climate and environmental risks
Shailendra is a project analyst for early warning systems (EWS) under Disaster risk reduction (DRR) intervention in ICIMOD. He is responsible for supporting design, implementation, and scaling of early warning systems across the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region.
Shailendra provides technical support to establish and strengthen EWS in project areas, working closely with local stakeholders and partners. He contributes to research and learning to assess the effectiveness of EWS in reducing flood risks. His work also includes capacity building and promoting sustainability mechanisms through collaboration with local stakeholders.
Shailendra worked extensively in early warning instrumentation and community-based adaptation. Notably, he contributed to a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)-funded project in eight districts in Malawi, where he supported the implementation of 21 community-based flood early warning system (CBFEWS) in collaboration with ICIMOD, Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), and Sustainable Eco Engineering (SEE).
