Dr. Shiba Satyal Banskota works as Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Lead at ICIMOD. Her expertise spans GESI-focused research on climate change, water, agriculture, energy, disaster risk reduction, GESI mainstreaming, policy advocacy, capacity building, and programme development. She is focused on advancing GESI in development policies and programmes in collaboration with government and non-government development partners.

Shiba has over 20 years of experience working on GESI. Before joining ICIMOD in 2023, she served as Head of Policy Influencing and GESI Lead at Plan International. Prior to this, she provided strategic and technical support for gender-transformative programming for the UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Shiba holds a PhD in Gender and Development from the State University of New York, USA, and has led research and published widely on topics such as vulnerability and risk assessments, GESI adaptation options, livelihoods, the socio-economic sector in Nepal, health, gender, democracy, violence against women, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for girls.
