Break the bias: Towards gender equality in the Hindu Kush Himalaya

Each year on 8 March, organizations and individuals around the globe come together to honour the struggles of women for social, economic, and political equality and to celebrate their achievements and contributions to society. At ICIMOD, this is an important day in our annual calendar. IWD celebrations at ICIMOD are not just about acknowledging and applauding the immeasurable contributions of women but an occasion to rally support for women’s rights in the HKH, and to collectively reflect on the challenges to and opportunities for advancing gender equality in our region.

IPCC and the mountains

The IPCC Working Group II report, Climate Change 2022: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability (AR6 WGII) features a dedicated Cross-Chapter-Paper on ‘Mountains’.

The report was approved by 195 member governments of the IPCC, and was released on 28 February 2022.

Alien Flora of Nepal at KATH

The database contains occurrence records of the alien plants of Nepal based on the herbarium specimens that have been deposited at the National Herbarium and Plant Laboratories (KATH) of the Department of Plant Resources, Ministry of Forest and Environment, Kathmandu, Nepal. The species included are invasive as well as non-invasive naturalized species. It has records of 133 alien species included in 3513 herbarium records.

Proceedings of the consultation meeting for GESI-responsive planning process

In 2019, under KSLCDI, HIMAWANTI Nepal drafted and used a training resource book to prepare GESI-responsive five-year natural resource management plans in two rural municipalities of Nepal: Saipal in Bajhang District and Byas in Darchula District. The five-year plans were then presented to relevant stakeholders in their respective district headquarters.

Proceedings of the workshop on distribution of glaciers and glacial lakes in Afghanistan and observed changes (1990–2015)

Together with Afghanistan’s National Water Affairs Regulation Authority (NWARA), we organized a workshop in Kabul in November 2020 to share databases on Afghanistan’s glaciers and glacial lakes. These databases were developed jointly by ICIMOD and NWARA through our SERVIR Hindu Kush Himalaya (SERVIR-HKH) Initiative.
