A year for mountains

Last I shared a message with you, we had just celebrated International Women’s Day on 8 March, a day I found incredibly motivating, both because we heard an inspiring personal story from our Deputy Director General, Izabella Koziell, and many of our colleagues presented about how their work breaks biases. Floristic diversity in the Far Eastern Himalayan Landscape

This is a checklist of flowering plant diversity in the Far eastern Himalayan Landscape comprising parts of China, India and Myanmar. It contains a total of 5283 species collated from published resources such as peer-reviewed journals, books and reports reviewed during a systematic review of plants from the Landscape.

Invasive alien species (IAS) are one of the major drivers of biodiversity loss across the globe. They affect natural ecosystems, agriculture, human health, and livelihoods. Invasion rate in mountain ecosystems in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) is likely to increase in the future, leading to greater biodiversity loss.

The local community of Nepal’s Limi Valley in Namkha Rural Municipality, Humla manage their natural resources through a traditional system that combines the issues of ecology, culture, religion, and livelihoods.
